Timothy Edlin
Biography
The English Bassbaritone Timothy Edlin started his musical education as a chorister in Canterbury Cathedral before later studying at the Royal College of Music in London. Between 2019-2021 he was a member of the OpernStudio NRW (North Rhine Westphalia). Since 2025-26 season he has been a member of the ensemble at Stadttheater Bremerhaven while alongside performing international engagements.
Highlights in the season 26-27 include the operatic roles; Walter (Luisa Miller), Kecal (The Bartered Bride) and the title role from Handel’s Hercules with Stadttheater Bremerhaven a well as the role of Farasmane from Handel’s Radamisto with Musik Theater an der Wien and the King (For the Love of Three Oranges) with Saarländisches Staatstheater Saarbrücken.
This season Timothy will also make his debut as a guest soloist with the Monteverdi Choir and Orchestra under Masaaki Suzuki with a tour of Bach’s St Matthew Passion in the UK and the USA with venues including St Martin-in-the-Fields in London and Carnegie Hall in New York.
Previous operatic highlights include; Achilla (Giulio Cesare by Händel), La Rocca (Un Giorno di Regno by Verdi) and the title role from Paisiello’s Il Re Teodoro in Venezia with Gelsenkirchen MiR; Il Sagrestano (Tosca) and Borella (Die Stumme by Portici) with Oper Dortmund; Sprecher and 2. Geharnischter (Die Zauberflöte), Johann (Werther) with Opera Wuppertal; Araldo (Il Canto s’attrista, perché? by Salvatore Sciarrino), with Stadttheater Klagenfurt; Petrucci (Lucrezia Borgia by Donizetti) with Aalto Theater Essen; Abbot (Britten’s Curlew River) with Theater Aachen; Doctor Grenvil (La Traviata), Capellio (I Capuleti e i Montecchi) and Judge Turpin (Sweeney Todd) with Stadttheater Bremerhaven and the roles of Timagene from Handel‘s Poro (concertante), as well as Das Portrait from Martinu‘s Twice Alexander with Musik Theater an der Wien.
As a sought after oratorio and concert singer Timothy has performed as a soloist in numerous internationally prestigious venues including; the Wigmore Hall and Royal Festival Hall in London, Boston Symphony Hall, Palau de la Música in Barcelona, Opera City Concert Hall in Tokyo, the Philharmonie Essen, Kölner Philharmonie, Konzerthaus Dortmund, the Chapel of King’s College Cambridge as well as appearing live on Radio 3 from the BBC studios.
Timothy is an active song and lieder singer, featuring previously as a recital artist with performances as part of the Three Palace Festival in Malta, Deal Festival for the Arts and the Lichfield Festival in the UK.
