Sophie Junker and Christopher Lowrey appear together on the acclaimed new recording of HANDEL: THEODORA, bringing exceptional emotional depth and dramatic sensitivity to one of George Frideric Handel’s most profound works.

Junker shines in the title role with luminous clarity and expressive warmth, while Lowrey’s refined countertenor brings remarkable intimacy and intensity to the role of Didymus. Together, their performances form the emotional heart of the oratorio, capturing Handel’s themes of faith, sacrifice, and transcendence with extraordinary nuance.

Conducted by Leonardo García-Alarcón, the recording features the celebrated Millenium Orchestra and Chœur de Chambre de Namur, alongside Andreas Wolf, Matthew Newlin, Dara Savinova, and Frederico Projecto.

Composed in 1749, Theodora is now widely regarded as one of Handel’s greatest masterpieces, admired for its spiritual depth, dramatic subtlety, and deeply expressive music. García-Alarcón’s interpretation reveals the work with striking transparency and emotional urgency, highlighting both its intimate humanity and monumental power.

The recording has already received major critical acclaim, including a Diapason 5 distinction from Diapason and the prestigious Diamant d’Opéra Magazine award from Opéra Magazine.
