Biography

Lidor Mesika is a distinctive young countertenor whose artistry seamlessly unites a rare vocal range with exceptional dramatic and expressive depth. Currently based in the Netherlands, he is rapidly acquiring international acclaim for his compelling interpretations in Baroque and contemporary repertoire, while maintaining a remarkable versatility that enables him to perform equally fluently in the baritone register.

A laureate of prestigious international competitions, Mesika was awarded the Young Emerging Talent Prize at the Farinelli Competition Karlsruhe (2025), reached the finals of the Renata Tebaldi Baroque Competition in San Marino, and won the Opera Awards Bursary (2024), the Young Artist Prize at the Grandi Voci Competition Salzburg (2024), and First Prize at the Paul Ben-Haim Competition (2022). Throughout his training and early career, he was awarded scholarships by both the Holland Scholarship and the America-Israel Cultural Foundation.

On the operatic stage, his recent highlights include captivating performances as Oberon in Britten’s A Midsummer Night’s Dream at the Badisches Staatstheater Karlsruhe, Ottone in Vivaldi’s Griselda at Opera Wuppertal, and the roles of Cake and Berghahn in Jonathan Dove’s Itch (Badisches Staatstheater Karlsruhe). The 2025/26 season sees significant house and role debuts, as he assumes the title role in Handel’s Flavio at the Staatstheater Meiningen and sings Arsamene in Handel’s Serse at Bühnen Bern. Demonstrating extraordinary stylistic range, his baritone repertoire includes signature roles such as Count Almaviva (Le nozze di Figaro by Mozart), Papageno and Sprecher (Die Zauberflöte by Mozart), the Forester (The Cunning Little Vixen by Janáček), Dandini (La Cenerentola by Rossini), Polyphemus (Acis and Galatea by Handel), and Melisso (Alcina by Handel).

Lidor Mesika earned his Master’s degree from the Royal Conservatoire The Hague under the tutelage of Ms. Noa Frenkel, having previously completed his Bachelor’s degree at the Jerusalem Academy of Music and Dance with Ms. Anat Efraty. His vocal foundation was established at the Netanya Municipal Conservatory with Ms. Vita Gurevich.

In concert, his repertoire encompasses major sacred masterworks and oratorios across both registers, including Handel’s Messiah and Dixit Dominus, Vivaldi’s Gloria and Nisi Dominus, Pergolesi’s Stabat Mater, Bach’s St. Matthew Passion and Mass in B Minor, Fauré’s Requiem, and Schubert’s Mass in G. He has appeared as a soloist with the Israeli Opera alongside leading orchestras and early music ensembles throughout Europe and Israel, gracing stages such as Amsterdam’s Concertgebouw and Muziekgebouw. Alongside his classical career, he actively explores dynamic cross-genre projects as part of the folk duo Duo Dos Almas and as lead vocalist for Mariachi Jerusalem.
