Jaro Kirchgessner

The German countertenor Jaro Kirchgessner is establishing himself as a versatile soloist on international festival and opera stages.

On the operatic stage, his repertoire spans from the Baroque and Classical eras to contemporary works. Current projects include the role of Zephyr in Mozart’s Apollo et Hyacinthus at the Salzburger Heckentheater (Mirabell Gardens) under the guidance of Rolando Villazón, covering the title role in Handel’s Floridante at the Bayreuth Baroque Opera Festival (directed by Max Emanuel Cencic, conducted by Markellos Chryssicos), and a contemporary double opera production featuring Kagel’s Mare Nostrum and the world premiere of Vollmer’s Tenochtitlan. Previous roles include Ruggiero (Alcina), Oberon (A Midsummer Night’s Dream), Refugee (Flight), and Fate (Miss Fortune).

As a concert soloist, he has performed at the Halle Handel Festival (Vocalensemble Rastatt), the Magdeburg Telemann Festival (Ensemble Polyharmonique, Wrocław Baroque Orchestra), the Thüringer Bachwochen, the Rheingau Musik Festival, and the Kulturpalast Dresden. His voice is also documented on recordings with Capella de la Torre, Ensemble Inégal, and BachWerkVokal.

Having received his early musical training with the Windsbacher Knabenchor, he completed his master’s degree with top honors under Prof. Martin Wölfel at the Folkwang University of the Arts. His extensive experience with top-tier ensembles such as Gaechinger Cantorey, Polyharmonique, and Aelbgut forms the foundation of his tonal precision and stylistic authority as a soloist.
