Franco-Belgian soprano Sophie Junker, celebrated for her captivating interpretations of Baroque repertoire, just release her latest album, La Serenissima: Venetian Silhouettes, under the Aparté label. This recording, also featuring {oh!} Orkiestra conducted by Martyna Pastuszka, is a showcase of exceptional artistry and deep connection to Baroque music.
In 2020, Junker unveiled her debut solo album, La Francesina: Handel’s Nightingale, also with Aparté. This tribute to Handel’s muse, Élisabeth Duparc, known as “La Francesina,” featured arias composed for the soprano during the composer’s later years. The album was met with critical acclaim, earning an International Classical Music Award and the Trophée Forum-Opéra.
La Serenissima: Venetian Silhouettes is poised to continue Junker’s exploration of Baroque masterpieces, offering listeners a rich tapestry of Venetian musical heritage. The album explores 18th-century Venetian opera, with Junker’s soprano delivering both acrobatic arias of fury and heart-rending laments. The program includes works by composers such as Vivaldi, Lotti, and Marcello, with Pastuszka’s violin leading one of Vivaldi’s ‘La Stravaganza’ concertos.
Fans and newcomers alike can anticipate a journey through the evocative soundscapes of Venice, as interpreted by one of today’s leading sopranos. La Serenissima: Venetian Silhouettes will be available on all major streaming platforms and for purchase through select retailers.
