Since 16 January 2026, Parnassus Arts Productions exclusive artist Sonja Runje (alto) has been shining in the title role of Griselda at the Oper Wuppertal. Until 8 March, Vivaldi’s opera Griselda runs under the musical direction of Yorgos Ziavras and in a staging by Mathilda du Tillieul McNicol, featuring Sonja Runje in Wuppertal.
This season, Sonja has sung the roles of Antigono (Mitridate Eupatore) at the Auditorio Nacional in Madrid and at the Palau de la Música in Barcelona, as well as Teodata (Flavio) at the Concertgebouw Amsterdam and at the Philharmonie Köln. Highlights of last season included Bradamante (Orlando Furioso) at the Bayreuth Baroque Opera Festival; the title roles in Giulio Cesare at Oper Köln and in Bononcini’s Griselda at the Musiktheater an der Wien; and Farnace (Mitridate, re di Ponto) at the Opéra de Lausanne.
Sonja Runje has sung the role of Alcina (Orlando Furioso) at the Salle Seine Musicale in Boulogne, Erenicein concert performances of Il Venceslao in Warsaw together with Max Emanuel Cenčić and {oh!} Orkiestra under Martyna Pastuszka, as well as in Herne, at the Musiktheater an der Wien and in Gliwice. She has also appeared in Handel’s oratorio The Triumph of Time and Truth at the Musiktheater an der Wien under Rubén Dubrovsky, Bach’s St John Passionand Elijah in Zagreb, and in a concert of the Hrvatska Misa at the Prinzregententheater Munich under Ivan Repušić.
Her most recent engagements include the role of Egeo in Teseo at the Händel Festival Halle and Angelo di Giustizia in Galuppi’s Adamo at the Musiktheater an der Wien and at the Musiikkitalo Helsinki.
The versatile alto collaborates regularly with renowned conductors such as George Petrou, Christian Curnyn, Rubén Dubrovsky, Benjamin Bayl, Martyna Pastuszka, Francesco Corti, and Aapo Häkkinen.
Her alto repertoire includes the title roles in Handel’s Amadigi and Giulio Cesare in Egitto, Orfeo in Gluck’s Orfeo ed Euridice, Disinganno in Handel’s Il Trionfo del Tempo e del Disinganno, Cornelia and Tolomeo in Handel’s Giulio Cesare in Egitto, Calipso in Porpora’s Polifemo, Bradamante and Alcina in Vivaldi’s Orlando Furioso, Aacheloo in Steffani’s La lotta d’Ercole con Acheloo, Sorceress in Purcell’s Dido and Aeneas, Erenice in Caldara’s Il Venceslao, and Isabella in Rossini’s L’Italiana in Algeri, which she performed with great success in 2018 and 2019.
In autumn 2026, Sonja Runje will appear as Elmira in the new production of Floridante at the Bayreuth Baroque Opera Festival, directed by Max Emanuel Cencic and conducted by Markellos Chryssicos.
