New at Parnassus: David Hansen

Parnassus Arts Productions is delighted to announce its exclusive collaboration with the countertenor David Hansen.

His recent and upcoming engagements include a concert tour in Berlin (Philharmonie) and Madrid (Auditorio Nacional de Música) with Hasse’s Serpentes ignei in deserto under Thibault Noally; Humperdinck’s Hänsel und Gretel(Witch/Elf/Dewman) at the Norwegian National Opera conducted by Leo Hussein; Monteverdi’s L’incoronazione di Poppea (Nerone) at the Gran Teatre del Liceu under Jordi Savall as well as at the Théâtre des Champs-Élysées in Paris; Cavalli’s Eliogabalo (Alessandro) at Zurich Opera House; and Donizetti’s Anna Bolena (Smeaton) at Théâtre Royal de la Monnaie.

David Hansen has performed Nerone (L’incoronazione di Poppea) at Zurich Opera and Teatro Ravenna; the title role ofXerxes in Handel’s opera at the Badisches Staatstheater Karlsruhe; the title role of Ariodante with the Canadian Opera Company and at the Palau de la Música Barcelona; Sesto (La clemenza di Tito) at the MusikTheater an der Wien; Ruggiero (Alcina) at the Bolshoi Theatre Moscow and at the Badisches Staatstheater Karlsruhe; Prinz GoGo at Zurich Opera; and Arbace in Hasse’s Artaserse at Pinchgut Opera, among many others.

He made his European debut in 2004 at the Festival d’Aix-en-Provence in Purcell’s Dido & Aeneas, and has since established himself as one of the world’s leading countertenors.

His concert highlights include Handel’s Saul under Nikolaus Harnoncourt at the Vienna Musikverein; Carmina Buranawith the Berlin Philharmonic under Sir Simon Rattle; Bach’s St. John Passion with Les Musiciens du Louvre under Marc Minkowski; Handel’s Solomon with the Orchestra of the Age of Enlightenment under René Jacobs; Handel’sMessiahunder Fabio Biondi; Handel’s Parnasso in festa and Vivaldi’s L’Olimpiade under Andrea Marcon at the Concertgebouw; and concerts with Nathalie Stutzmann and Emmanuelle Haïm.

Hansen’s solo album for Sony (dhm), Rivals – Arias for Farinelli & Co., with Academia Montis Regalis and Alessandro De Marchi, received critical acclaim. His other recordings include Bach’s St. John Passion with Les Musiciens du Louvre under Minkowski (Warner Classics/Erato), One Charming Night with music by Purcell recorded with Oslo Circles (Simax), Purcell – Music for Queen Mary with the Academy of Ancient Music and the King’s College Choir Cambridge under Stephen Cleobury (EMI Classics), as well as Vivaldi’s Griselda, Cavalli’s Giasone, and Hasse’s Artaserse with the Orchestra of the Antipodes led by Erin Helyard (Pinchgut Opera Live). His most recent recording, Hasse’s Serpentes ignei in deserto with Les Accents under Noally, was released in 2024 by Warner Classics/Erato.

Upcoming engagements include his role debuts as Sesto (Giulio Cesare), the title role in Teseo at the Opera Rara Festival in Kraków, and the Witch in Hänsel und Gretel at the Oslo Opera, among others.
