Suzanne Jerosme

Biography

”... a voice extraordinary in its range of colours - musically and dramatically a performance of marvellous intensity” [Aachener Zeitung]

After graduating from the Guildhall School of Music and Drama in London and the Hochschule für Musik und Tanz in Cologne, dazzling young French soprano Suzanne Jerosme is rapidly offered to join the ensemble of Theater Aachen (Aix-la-Chapelle).

As a finalist in the 2016 International Singing Competition for Baroque Opera Pietro Antonio Cesti, Suzanne was invited to the 2017 Innsbrucker Festwochen der Alten Musik to sing the title-role in Reinhard Keiser’s Octavia – “As Octavia, Suzanne Jerosme displayed great humanity … an undeniable nobility… high-notes both crystalline and heart-rending… moments of pure joy.” [baroquiades.com].
Performances in 2016 include L'incoronazione di Poppea (Amore/Valletto) with Ensemble Matheus conducted by Jean-Christophe Spinosi, Lauretta in Gianni Schicchi in Aachen and Brahms’ German Requiem at the Ostbelgien Festival and Aachen’s Cathedral, both under the baton of Kazem Abdullah.

Notable roles in Aachen include Poppea (L'incoronazione di Poppea) – “one of the most profound interpretations I have ever heard” [forumopera.com], Maria (West Side Story), La plus jeune Fille (Au Monde by Philippe Boesmans), Zerlina (Don Giovanni), Blanche de la Force (Dialogues des Carmélites) – “magnificent… a maidenly, shining soprano growing to greatness” [omm.de], Flora (The Turn of the Screw), Despina (Così fan tutte), et Bellezza (Il trionfo del tempo e del disinganno de Haendel) – “Suzanne Jerosme manages Handel's sometimes feared coloraturas with breath-taking perfection and unbelievable easiness.” [Klenkes].

As a concert singer Suzanne sang on several occasions at the Festival d'Auvers-sur-Oise and the Annecy Classic Festival (Mozart’s Coronation Mass and Vesperæ solennes de confessore with the Saint-Petersburg Philharmonic Orchestra under Patrick Marco). She sung in Aachen the solo soprano part in Mahler’s Resurrection Symphony, the Great Mass in C minor and Exsultate, Jubilate by Mozart. In 2018 she returns to the Innsbrucker Festwochen der alten Musik with a recital entitled Time Stands Still, exploring love in all its complexity through 17th Century music from England, France, and Italy.

During the 2019/20 season, Suzanne sang the role of Woglinde in Wagner’s Hagen in Aachen and the First Lady in the French version of Mozart's Die Zauberflöte under Hervé Niquet (Opéra d’Avignon and Opéra Royal de Versailles). She also made her debuts at the Opéra National de Lorraine with the role of Morgana in Handel's Alcina staged by Serena Sinigaglia and conducted by Leonardo García Alarcón.

At the beginning of the 2020/21 season, she made her debut at the Bayreuth Baroque Opera Festival as Giuditta in Carlo il Calvo by Porpora staged by Max Emanuel Cenčic and conducted by George Petrou, and in concert version at Theater an der Wien and the Concertgebouw in Amsterdam. Subsequently Suzanne sang the title role of Cleofida, Queen of India (Handel/Telemann) for a recording along with Il Gusto Barocco conducted by Jörg Halubek. She then returned to Theater and der Wien with the role of Sestia in Cajo Fabricio by Hasse, sang the title role in Cavalli’s La Calisto at Theater Aachen and recorded Purcell’s Odes with Damien Guillon and Le Banquet Céleste.

During the season 2021/22, Suzanne will revive the role of Giuditta in Carlo Il Calvo at the Bayreuth Baroque Festival, as well as at San Lorenzo del Escorial. In Aachen she will sing again the title role in La Calisto, Valencienne in Die Lustige Witwe and Helena in Britten’s Midsummer Night’s Dream. In Cologne she will be Ismene in Joseph Aloys‘ Lindor und Ismene and take part in a tour of Odes with Damien Guillon (Salle Gaveau in Paris, Nice, Rennes and Poitiers).
