Dennis Orellana

The young and talented soprano Dennis Orellana (born in 2000 and currently 21 years old!) will take part in several baroque productions in the 2022/23 season. He will sing the title role in the rediscovered Vinci’s opera, Alessandro nell’Indie at the Bayreuth Baroque Opera Festival. This new production will be directed by Max Emanuel Cencic and conducted by Martyna Pastuszka. During the same festival, Dennis will also appear as Zeffiro in Il Nascimento dell'Aurora and as Ernesto in Griselda. This will mark his first performances in front of a large and international audience.
Dennis Orellana was born in San Pedro Sula, Honduras. He began his music studies in the San Pedro Sula Youth Symphonic Orchestra as a trombonist with Alfonso Flores. He combined his singing training with his university studies in computer science and digital design.
In September 2019 he was admitted to the Escuela Superior de Canto de Madrid, the only university in Europe dedicated exclusively to opera singers. In the same year he took part in master classes at the Accademia Nazionale di Santa Cecilia in Rome with the soprano Emanuela Salucci and in Madrid with Carolina Alcaide. The countertenor was admitted at the University of the Arts (HMDK) in Stuttgart where he is currently studying as part of the Erasmus program.
In March 2021 he made his debut in Madrid with the role of Amor in the premiere of La selva sin amor. In April of the same year he brought Cherubino to life in Mozart's Le nozze di Figaro in a production by Marina Bollaín and Nacho Rodríguez. He made his professional and international debut as Berardo in Carlo il Calvo (opera by Nicola Porpora) in August 2021 at the Teatro Auditorio San Lorenzo del Escorial. He shared the stage with the likes of Max Emanuel Cenčić, Julia Lezhneva, Franco Fagioli and Markellos Chryssicos conducted Armonia Atenea. In February 2022 he sang Moth in Britten's Midsummer Night's Dream at the Wilhelma Theater in Stuttgart.
Exciting engagements for Dennis Orellana in the 2022/23 season include the roles of Ernesto in Bononcini's Griselda in Wrocław, Berardo in Porpora's Carlo il Calvo in Dortmund and at Scala di Milano (house debut) and finally Alessandro in Caldara's Il Venceslao in Gliwice and at the Theater an der Wien (house debut).
