New at Parnassus, Fanny Lustaud

07.02.2024

We are very pleased to take over the management for the French-born mezzo-soprano Fanny Lustaud. The highly talented young mezzo-soprano has participated or will participate in several outstanding productions in 2024 and will perform in the title roles Carmen at the Theater Aachen, Xerxes at the Theater Gießen, as Medea in Handel's Teseo at the Handel Festival Halle and at the NFM Wroclaw.

Fanny Lustaud began her musical training at the age of five at the Conservatoire à Rayonnement régional in Saint-Maur-des-Fossés, from which she graduated with a distinction in French horn. At the same time as studying literature, she began her vocal studies with Laurence Equilbey at the Conservatoire à Rayonnement régional in Paris. During her training, she appeared as Dorabella in Mozart's Così fan tutte, as Sophrona in Ravel's Alcyone and as the "Shepherdess" and "Dragonfly" in Ravel's The Child and the Enchantments.
From 2013 to 2015, she attended the Felix Mendelssohn Bartholdy Academy of Music and Theater in Leipzig and obtained her master's degree in opera under Regina Werner-Dietrich. This was followed by a first engagement for a series of performances at the Gewandhaus with excerpts from Octavian in Der Rosenkavalier by Richard Strauss and Prince Orlovsky in Die Fledermaus.
Fanny Lustaud attended master classes with Leontina Vaduva, Udo Reinemann, Dietrich Henschel, Mistuko Shirai and Brigitte Fassbaender. In 2013 she was a young semi-finalist in the Nadia and Lili Boulanger Competition, in 2015 finalist at the Lortzing Competition and in 2016 finalist at the European Opera Singing Competition. In July 2017, she was a double for the roles of the "Bad Student" and the "Cabaret Singer" in the world premiere of Philippe Boesman's Pinocchio at the Aix-en-Provence Opera Festival and at La Monnaie.
In the 2017/18 season, Fanny Lustaud was a member of the opera studio of the Opéra national du Rhin in Strasbourg and appeared as Adonella in Francesca da Rimini by Riccardo Zandonai and as Uiko in The Temple Fire by Toshirô Mayuzumi.

Fanny Lustaud has been a member of the Theater Aachen ensemble since the 2018/19 season. So far, she has interpreted the main role of Carmen, Charlotte in Werther by Massenet, Orontea in Orontea by Cesti, Cherubino in Le nozze di Figaro, Piacere in Il trionfo del Tempo e del Disinganno by Handel, Dinah in Trouble in Tahiti by Bernstein and Dorabella, a role that Fanny also sang at Theater Bern. She has also interpreted La Belle in Beauty and the Beast by Philip Glass, Diana in La Calisto by Cavalli and Polina in Queen of Spades by Tchaïkovski, Stefano in Romeo and Juliet by Gounod.

At the 2022 Handel Festival in Halle, Fanny Lustaud sang the role of Pirro (Caio Fabbricio, Hasse/Händel). In 2023, she was the alto in Beethoven's 9th Symphony in the Cologne Philharmonie and in the B minor Mass in Aachen Cathedral. In the 2023/24 season, Fanny Lustaud will sing the title role of Carmen, Matilda (King Arthur by Purcell) at Theater Aachen as well as the title role of Xerxes! The Xerxes premiere will take place on February 10, 2024 at the Stadttheater Gießen and the Xerxes performances will run until June 1, 2024 in Gießen !
