Standing ovations for Il Polifemo in Vienna and Amsterdam
24.05.2023
Standing ovations and extensive applause were the audience's reaction to our performances of Il Polifemo, the opera by Nicola Antonio Porpora, on May 4th, 2023 in Hall E of Vienna's Museumsquartier as part of the Musiktheater an der Wien as well as on May 6th, 2023 in Amsterdam's Concertgebouw as part of the Zaterdag Matinee. Parnassus Arts Productions' reputation of rediscoverer of Baroque operas unknown and not performed since the 18th century was once again proven well deserved.
Residence conductor of the Bayreuth Baroque Opera Festivals 2020 + 2021, George Petrou, directed his Armonia Atenea as excellently as usual.
Brilliant were Franco Fagioli as Aci and Julia Lezhneva as Galathea, which left the important part of Ulisse to star countertenor Max Emanuel Cencic, the artistic director of Bayreuth Baroque, singer, director, producer and impresario.
Israeli soprano Rinnat Moriah sang the part of Narea gloriously. Young Croatian alto Sonja Runje, now living in Stuttgart, inspired as Calipso.
The title role of Polifemo lay in the hands of young bass-baritone Sreten Manojlovic.
It was a pleasure to realize this production with the dynamic orchestra Armonia Atenea, playing on original instruments.
The cast of Polifemo reads a follows:
Aci: Franco Fagioli
Ulisse: Max Emanuel Cencic
Polifemo: Sreten Manojlovic
Galatea: Julia Lezhneva
Nerea: Rinnat Moriah
Calipso: Sonja Runje
conductor: George Petrou
orchestra: Armonia Atenea
