Standing ovations for Il Venceslao in Gliwice and Vienna
05.12.2022
It was standing ovations and enthusiastic applause that the audience rewarded the performances of Il Venceslao with, on 20 November 2022 at Teatr Miejski as part of the All'Improvviso Festival, Gliwice, and on 22 November 2022 in Hall E of the Museumsquartier, Vienna, as part of the Musiktheater an der Wien.
Successfully, Parnassus Arts Productions defended its reputation as rediscoverer of unknown Baroque operas, some of which not having seen the light of stage since the 18th century. In this spirit, we presented our most recent unearthing and new production, namely of the opera Il Venceslao by Antonio Caldara, composer at the court of Empress Maria Theresia.
For that, we put the musical direction into the hands of Martyna Pastuszka, resident conductress of this year's Bayreuth Baroque Opera Festival, who presided over her {oh!} Orkiestra! in high quality well-proven. The, not very big, title role was sung by star countertenor Max Emanuel Cencic, artistic director of Bayreuth Baroque, singer, director, producer and impresario, and brilliantly so.
On top of that, two more angelic voices - a MET-approved Nicholas Tamagna as Casimiro, and the male soprano from Honduras, Dennis Orellana, a mere 22 years old, in two roles, namely Alessandro und Ernando. Young French soprano, Suzanne Jerosme's Lucinda was glorious, and also young Croatian, now living in Stuttgart, altoist Sonja Runje enthralled as Erenice. Trusty Pavel Kudinov lent his bass to Gismondo.
We are very pleased with this project with the young, dynamic Baroque orchestra {oh!} Orkiestra! playing on matured instruments.
In plain text, the cast of Il Venceslao reads as follows:
