Bayreuth Baroque from September 1-12, 2021
The good news: Bayreuth Baroque 2021 is taking place! This year, 2 opera productions, 1 oratorio and 6 concerts will be performed. Last year's production of Carlo il Calvo will be revived on the 1st, 3rd and 5th September. Directed and performed by Max Emanuel Cencic and under the musical direction of George Petrou, Carlo Il Calvo was production of the year 2020 in Forum Opera. The same stellar cast will return this year. We are very much looking forward to Franco Fagioli, Julia Lezhneva, Bruno de Sa, Suzanne Jerosme, Petr Nekoranec, Nian Wang and Armonia Atenea.
Concert programs with Jakub Jozef Orlinski on 10th September, Simone Kermes on 4th September, Dorothee Oberlinger on 2nd September, Maddalena del Gobbo on 6th September, Martyna Pastuszka on 8th September and a gala concert on September 11th with Franco Fagioli dedicated to Leonardo Vinci are part of this year’s program.
We are also looking forward to Lucy Crowe, Benjamin Hulett, Pavel Kudinov, Hogni Wu, Bart Naessens, the BachChor Plus and the special ensemble B'Rock in Handel‘s Oratorio Judas Maccabaeus on 7th September. In addition to B'Rock and Armonia Atenea, the ensembles Il Pomo d'Oro, Orkiestra Historyczna, and Amici Veneziani will give guest performances.
The second opera is a concert performance of Nicola A. Porpora's Polifemo on the 9th and 12th September. The spectacular cast includes Max Emanuel Cencic as Ulisse, Julia Lezhneva as Galathea, Yuriy Mynenko as Aci, Pavel Kudinov in the title role, Sonja Runje as Calipso and Rinnat Moriah as Nerea. George Petrou will conduct Armonia Atenea, the orchestra in residence of this festival in both operas, Carlo il Calvo and Polifemo.
The Covid-19 regulations still requires a distance of 1.50 m and the wearing of FFP2 masks in the theater. The sitting is (unfortunately) still very limited!
